Alcorn rally moved to courthouse grounds

CORINTH – Spokesmen for a group that plans a July 6 Second Amendment rally in Corinth asked the county board Monday for use of the Alcorn County Courthouse grounds for the event.
Initial publicity for the event listed Crossroads Regional Park as the venue, said Bobby McDaniels and Jay Anthony. However, the NAACP biannual schools reunion was already scheduled for the park.
The Board of Supervisors voted to approve use of the courthouse grounds for the rally to highlight passage of House Bill 2, referred to as the open carry law. However, their approval is with the understanding that no weapons will be brought onto the courthouse grounds.
Board attorney Bill Davis said he was not yet familiar with the specifics of House Bill 2, so he was not comfortable supporting blanket approval of the event as envisioned by planners – an open-carry, empty-chamber day.
