Alleged bank robber picked up by police

TUPELO – The man police suspect in the July 7 armed bank robbery in Tupelo has been arrested.
According to Tupelo Police Chief Tony Carleton, Robert Thomas Shantz is being held by Memphis police. He was reportedly found Friday afternoon.
Memphis police said the Georgia cab driver was finally caught soon after an armed robbery of the bank on Highway 64 in Cordova, according to WMC-TV in Memphis.
A citizen followed Shantz and another man in his car after police said they robbed the bank at gunpoint just before 4 p.m. Friday, according to the television report. The citizen stayed on the phone letting authorities know where the robbery suspects were going until they were caught.
Shantz allegedly robbed the Trustmark Bank on West Main Street around 4:15 p.m. that day.
He is also suspected in bank robberies in Georgia, Alabama and Arkansas.
