Amory hires new school superintendent

AMORY – Dr. Gearl Loden has been hired as the superintendent of education in Amory.
The school board approved Loden for the position in a special session Thursday.
Loden, 39, has been principal of South Panola High School for four years. He and his wife, Monica, have two sons, who are 7 and 6 months old.
Loden, who grew up in Mantachie and is a graduate of Mantachie High School, has been an educator for 18 years. Eleven of those years have been spent in administration.
“My family and I are excited about moving to Amory,” he said. “Amory schools are well-rounded in academics and athletics. There is a lot of community support here.”
Loden said he wants to develop solid relationships and plot a direction for what is already in Amory.
“We are very excited about Dr. Loden,” board President Bill Rogers said. “He has worked with curriculum and that is important. He is a young man, but very experienced. It was a unanimous decision by the board that he was the right fit for us.”
Loden replaces outgoing superintendent Jim Sappington, who is retiring at the end of June.
