AMORY – An Amory man has died after a police chase that started in Sulligent, Ala., and ended in Monroe County when he crashed his motorcycle, according to Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley.
Sulligent police began pursuing Amechie Jerel Lowe, 27,, shortly before 7 p.m. on Tuesday after authorities say Lowe was speeding through the city on U.S. Highway 78. Lowe “refused to stop” and crossed over into Mississippi, Gurley said.
The chase continued to Greenwood Springs, where Lowe and police turned north on Splunge Road. There, Lowe lost control of his 2002 Suzuki GSX about three miles north of Highway 278 and was thrown into a tree.
He was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple injuries. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
The accident was investigated by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, which had been notified of the pursuit by Sulligent PD and was on the scene shortly after the accident.
