AMORY – The manager of a local fast food restaurant was assaulted at her home on 8th Avenue South when she went home from work Sunday night.
According to Amory Police Chief Ronnie Bowen, the woman was beaten by an apparent burglar as she was preparing to go into her home at about 3:35 a.m.
Her assailant is described as a black male wearing a red shirt. Bowen said early investigation shows that the man apparently was in the act of burglarizing a tool box because the tool box lid on her husband’s pickup truck, which was in the driveway, was open.
The assailant reportedly struck the woman and dragged her by her hair. When she hit the panic button on her keys and her car’s horn sounded, the man ran in the direction of the hospital. Police searched the area but found no clues to the identity of the man.
The woman suffered abrasions but declined to be transported to the hospital for treatment.
