CRYSTAL SPRINGS — A 56-year-old man was killed when an Amtrak train struck his vehicle just south of Crystal Springs, Miss.
Copiah County Coroner Ellis Stewart tells The Clarion-Ledger that Alonzo Minter of Canton, Miss., was driving his Chevy Tahoe west across the railroad tracks when he was struck by the northbound train Sunday.
Stewart said the impact tossed the SUV several feet, and Minter, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Amtrak spokesman Steve Kulhm (KOHLM) said the train, which was headed to Chicago, was carrying 224 passengers, none of whom was injured.
