TUPELO – Grady Bartlett is participating in an American rite of childhood – operating a lemonade stand.
The 7-year-old this week opened his stand at the corner of Robins and Jefferson streets. His grandmother, Martha Ann Staub, keeps a watchful eye on him as she tinkers in the yard.
Grady is from Atlanta and is visiting his grandparents. He’s selling lemonade for 25 cents a cup and hopes to raise enough money to buy his dad a gift for Father’s Day.
He’s actively involved in the fledgling business. He made his business’ multicolored sign, which features a yellow pitcher of iced lemonade.
And the youngster, who wears a white chef’s hat while manning the card table, said he helped his grandmother make the lemonade.
He’s even set business hours – Monday through today from 1 to 3 p.m.
