COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) — A 31-year-old Columbus man died when his brother’s apartment caught fire.
Officials say firefighters found the body of Tavaris Barrett at about 5 a.m. Saturday, shortly after a fire was reported at the one-story converted house.
A battalion chief tells The Commercial Dispatch that Barrett was temporarily staying at the apartment, which was one of five in the large, wood-frame house.
The state fire marshal was called in to determine the cause and origin or the fire, which is still under investigation.
