JACKSON — The Mississippi Supreme Court on Thursday declined to hear an appeal from a Calhoun County man who claimed he was denied his right to a speedy trial.
Roger Patterson was convicted in 2010 of sale of cocaine and sentenced to serve 12 years in prison and five years’ probation.
In his appeal, Patterson claims he was arrested in 2008. He says the two-year time period between the time of his arrest and the start of his trial violated his statutory and constitutional rights.
The state Court of Appeals last year denied Patterson’s claim saying he never asserted his right to a speedy trial or raised the issue of a trial date with the court.
