Appeals court denies new hearing for Jones

JACKSON – Convicted murderer Brett Jones will not get a rehearing of his Lee County conviction, the Mississippi Court of Appeals said Tuesday.
Jones was 16 when he was arrested in the stabbing death of his grandfather, Bertis Jones, in the Pleasant Grove community.
Now 22, he’s serving a life sentence from the jury conviction.
Jones claims he was denied a fair trial because of ineffective legal counsel.
In August 2011, judges denied another appeal. He’s serving his sentence in the Mississippi State Prison at Parchman.
