TUPELO – Jason Arledge was named assistant principal of Shannon Middle School on Tuesday, after being approved by the district’s school board.

Arledge is currently teaching math at Shannon High. He officially begins his new job in January and replaces Rodney Spears, who was named principal at Plantersville Middle.

“It is a great opportunity, great school and great people,” said Arledge, who is from Shannon. “I’m excited to work with them to make it better.”

Arledge is in his 13th year as a teacher, his eighth in the district and his third at SHS. He also has taught at Saltillo High, Tupelo High and Cleveland High, as well as in Georgia and Alabama.

“He has gone above and beyond in his commitment to the school and the community,” said Superintendent Jimmy Weeks. “He is ready.”
