Stuart to discuss

book at Ole Miss

Three-time Grammy Award winner Marty Stuart will present an informal lecture Thursday at the University of Mississippi.

The 3 p.m. event in Barnard Observatory is free. Stuart will discuss his book “Pilgrims: Sinners, Saints, and Prophets: A Book of Words and Photographs.”

Later in the day, he will present a book reading as well as perform from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the Thacker Mountain Radio Show, which is broadcast live on WOXD 95.5 FM from Off Square Books in downtown Oxford. A book signing will follow the program.

“Pilgrims’ is partly a photo biography of Stuart’s music career, with personal essays and lyrics, and also a road album filled with well-composed and interesting photos for everyone he’s worked with and admired,” said Jamie Kornegay, a Thacker Mountain Radio Show producer.

Missing Social Security checks found

VERONA – Nearly 150 Social Security checks that didn’t arrive at the Verona post office on time were delivered Tuesday morning.

“They were just misdelivered,” said postal clerk Bobby Williams. “They were supposed to be delivered on Friday and we got them (Tuesday). We don’t know what happened.”

Williams said when the third of the month falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the checks normally arrive the Friday before.

“We did an all-out search to try to find them,” Williams said. “For the most part people were nice to us about them. … They came in on a truck today from Memphis. We already delivered them to the boxes.”
