Auditor's letter chastised Southaven aldermen

SOUTHAVEN — The Mississippi auditor’s office warned Southaven aldermen in a March 16 letter that they were running the risk of being held liable for charges made by Mayor Greg Davis if they did not immediately review the items in question.

The Commercial Appeal reports (http://bit.ly/GHJvhs ) Special Asst. Atty. Gen. Melissa C. Patterson chastised board members in the letter for not having complied with a January request to review the charges that Davis made to his city-issued credit card.

The letter, released Thursday, prompted a nearly six-hour executive session Tuesday evening during which the board discussed what members would only describe as documents they were asked to review by auditors.

In November, Davis was ordered to repay more than $170,000, including penalties and interest, for expenses incurred on his personal credit card.
