AMORY – Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 7, has new meaning to Star Johnson of Central Grove Road. She truly experienced labor that morning about 4:45 a.m. when her son, Justin Ray Johnson Jr., was born at home.
Johnson’s due date was Sept. 12. She had been earlier that morning to the North Mississippi Medical Center’s Emergency Room and was told she wasn’t going into labor. Two hours later, the baby was born.
She was taking a bath when she screamed. The baby was born before her family could get her out of the bathroom.
The ambulance was called and when EMTs arrived, the father, Justin Johnson, was able to cut the umbilical cord. She was then transferred to Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Both mother and baby were fine and were released from the hospital the following morning.
This was the Johnsons’ second child.
