Baldwyn News joins newspaper group

BALDWYN – The Baldwyn News is under new management.

John Haynes, owner of the Baldwyn News, contracted Jan. 1 with Northeast Mississippi Community Newspapers Inc. to manage the newspaper.

The Baldwyn News will join the Itawamba County Times, Aberdeen Examiner, and Amory Advertiser as the newest member of the Northeast Mississippi Community Newspapers group.

Rubye Del Harden, publisher of the Itawamba County Times in Fulton, is general manager of the group. The group is part of Journal Publishing Co., which also publishes the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal.

“This move will ensure Baldwyn of continuing to have a quality hometown newspaper,” Haynes said.

“I lack the time needed to devote to the operation,” he said. “I feel Northeast Mississippi Community Newspapers will bring many innovations and opportunities to our community newspaper.”

Harden is excited about the Baldwyn News joining the group. “Having a group of locally owned community newspapers brings many opportunities to all the papers involved,” Harden said.

“We are delighted that John Haynes has agreed to serve as an adviser to the paper on community relations. We do not want to lose his involvement, experience and service to this community through the newspaper,” she added.

The staff will remain the same. Edwina Carpenter will remain as managing editor. Tammy Bullock has been named advertising representative and will continue as typesetter. MaryAnn Knight will be photographer and part-time office manager.
