NEW HOULKA – Because no candidate won a majority Feb. 16, a runoff will be held March 2 to fill the town’s vacant alderman position.
The vote on Feb. 16 resulted in a tie for second place, so all three candidates will appear on the ballot again.
Jimmy Kelly got the most votes, 36. Kimberly Buchanan Murphree and Jerry Turner each got 36 votes.
The March 2 runoff will be the last election in this cycle, as long as there’s not a tie for No. 1.
