BancorpSouth Arena roof damage not as bad as feared

TUPELO – The BancorpSouth Arena’s roof won’t need to be completely rebuilt, according to its director, Todd Hunt.
On Monday, Hunt told the Coliseum Commission that an infrared scan revealed that “we don’t have to replace as much of the insulation as we thought.”
That means a new roof can be overlaid on top of the existing roof, which is about 90,000 square feet. Hunt said he expects to have an estimated project cost in the next week to 10 days.
The roof sprang numerous leaks during early March rains. The commission declared the roof an emergency at a special meeting March 11. The declaration allows the commission to bypass normal bid rules for public buildings.
