Baptist Memorial Health Care confirms purchase of Oxford property

By NEMS Daily Journal

A spokesman for Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation acknowledged that an affiliate of the Memphis-based hospital system had purchased the 107-acre property on Highway 6 west of Oxford that had been the source of much recent speculation.
Dick Cowart, an attorney working as a spokesman for Baptist, tried to assure Oxford and Lafayette County officials, developers and local residents that the site had been available for purchase but not for option, as several other sites have been.
Baptist, which leases the existing hospital in Oxford from the city and the county, is negotiating to buy out its lease and to build a new $250-300 million regional referral hospital to replace it.
