Bar-B-Q by Jim to open at mall

TUPELO – Bar-B-Q by Jim is opening a second location inside The Mall at Barnes Crossing.
Owner Jim Beane said his new restaurant will open this month at the food court where Back Yard Burger previously was.
“It’s something I’ve been talking about for years,” he said. “We’re going to give it a try for 90 to 120 days and see how we like it. It’s a whole different atmosphere, something new.”
Beane, who is president of the Tupelo Restaurant Association, serves breakfast, plate lunches and barbecue at his restaurant on North Commerce Street in downtown Tupelo.
For his mall location, he said, the food will be strictly barbecue with no breakfast or plate lunches. The menu will include pulled pork, smoked chicken, smoked sausage, chicken wings, coleslaw and baked beans.
Because of the expansion, Beane will hire five new employees.
“I haven’t announced it and I’ve already got 25 applications,” Beane said Thursday.
The employees will work at both locations, depending on the business need.
Beane had hoped to open next week, but those plans have been delayed by a broken water heater. He expects he’ll start serving food at the mall by the end of the month.
