Barbour: House to go GOP, not likely for Senate

WASHINGTON — Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour says he’s confident Republicans will take control of the House in Tuesday’s elections, but not likely the Senate.

Barbour tells CBS’s “The Early Show” that recapturing control of the Senate would be a longshot. Barbour says, “I think it is highly likely we will win a majority in the House, but it’s harder in the Senate. It’s more of a stretch.”

Barbour, chairman of the Republican Governor’s Association, called the election “a referendum” on President Barack Obama, saying “the American people do not like Obama’s policies.” He said the election is not about the public saying, ‘Hey, Republicans, we love you.’ ” He said it’s a manifestation of voter anger over “outrageous spending” by the current administration.
