Barton bank in Marshall County hit in robbery

BARTON – Two suspects are sought in the robbery of the Citizens Bank at Barton on Thursday around 10 a.m.
“A black male and a black female came into the bank, both armed with handguns,” said Maj. Kelly McMillen, detective supervisor with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.
Both suspects, who wore masks of horror-film character Freddy Krueger, allegedly jumped the counter and threatened employees, although no one was injured. In about two-and-a-half minutes they cleared out a large amount of cash.
The suspects fled in what was believed to be a late-model Grand Prix. Witnesses reported them going south on Highway 309 and then west on Goodman Road before turning north onto Center Hill Road and crossing into Shelby County, Tenn.
Friday’s robbery was the second of a Marshall County bank within three weeks. Authorities are trying to determine whether the two – and the recent theft of more than a dozen firearms from a Marshall County pawn shop – may be related.
Anyone with information may call Crime Stoppers of Marshall County at (800) 729-2169 or McMillen at 252-1311. If information leads to an arrest and conviction, a $5,000 reward will be paid.
