OXFORD – The Ole Miss men’s basketball team tonight takes on a mid-major opponent with a major reputation.
Tip-off against Murray State is 7 p.m., at Tad Smith Coliseum.
The Rebels (1-0) opened the regular season with a 68-60 win over Arkansas State last Friday.
Murray State upset No. 4 seed Vanderbilt in the first round of the NCAA tournament last season, then lost 54-52 to eventual national runner-up Butler.
The Racers return three starters and eight key contributors from that team, which finished 31-5.
Murray (1-0) opened the 2010-2011 season Monday night with a 50-39 win over East Tennessee State, forcing 25 turnovers along the way.
The Racers have four preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference players, including last year’s freshman of the year, 6-foot sophomore guard Isaiah Canaan, a native of Biloxi.
Senior point guard Chris Warren led Ole Miss with 26 points in the opener, and senior guard Zach Graham added 12.
Warren has hit at least one 3-point basket in a school-record 46 straight games. He was 1 for 5 from the arc against Arkansas State, while the Rebels were just 3 for 17 as a team.
