BASKETBALL UPDATE: Ole Miss (15-9, 5-5 SEC)

By Parrish Alford/NEMS Daily Journal

Looking back: The Rebels dropped a 70-60 road game at rival Mississippi State, their third loss in four games, but rallied from 11 back in the second half to defeat Auburn 71-64 on Saturday at Tad Smith Coliseum.
Looking ahead: The Rebels have an RPI opportunity game Thursday night at 8 (ESPN2) at home against Vanderbilt, then travel for a 3 p.m., start Saturday at Kentucky (SEC Network). The week is the third and final “quick turn” for the Rebels this season.
Who’s hot: Murphy Holloway. The junior forward scored 12 straight points in a 14-0 Ole Miss run as the Rebels regained the lead against Auburn. He finished with 20 points, 11 rebounds, his eighth double-double of the season. He was 8 for 15 from the field.
Who’s not: Senior forward Terrance Henry. After a five-game stretch where he was averaging 17.2 points, Henry was held to six points at MSU, to four points against Auburn. He’s shooting 3 for 15 from the floor over the last two games.
RPI watch: Ole Miss begins the week with an RPI of 52 following the Auburn win. Vanderbilt is at 28, and Kentucky is at 3.
Bottom Line: With Henry slumping someone else had to score big, and Holloway answered the call.
A reemergence of Henry would be a welcome addition against an athletic and diverse Vanderbilt team.
While Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy talks about computing numbers at the end of the season and not putting more importance on one game than others right now, the Rebels have a chance to beat a quality RPI opponent at home this week.
A win over a top 30 RPI team would do wonders for the resume when the time comes to compute the numbers.
