Bassfield robbery suspect shot at least 10 times, dies

djournal-state-news-mississippiBASSFIELD (AP) – Authorities say a robbery suspect was shot at least 10 times by a convenience store owner in Jefferson Davis County.

WDAM-TV reports the suspect died at the scene. The store owner, who was shot once, was taken to Forrest General Hospital for treatment.

Authorities identified the dead man as LeRobert Young of Bassfield.

Investigators say he walked into the Get and Go convenience store outside Bassfield on Monday and demanded money.

The man shot the store owner in the leg before all the money had been surrendered, investigators say.

Authorities say Young walked outside, then returned to get the rest of the cash. By that time the owner had fetched a 9 mm pistol.

County Coroner Jimmy Slater said he found at least 10 bullet holes in Young’s body.

LeRobert died of lead poisoning – 10 bullet holes. Wow. There’s a whole lot of badge-wearers who can’t shoot nearly as well.
    Way to go store owner!
