Battery, HIV sentences add up for Gardner

Court NewsTUPELO – Robert E. Gardner will serve the next 15-20 years in prison after pleading guilty to the sexual battery of a 15-year-old Saltillo girl.

Circuit Judge Thomas Gardner sentenced him Thursday, adding five years to the sentence for violating supervised release program from a previous conviction.

For the sexual battery plea, the judge sentenced him to 30 years, 15 years suspended with five years post-release supervision and fines.

Gardner, 29, pleaded guilty in May 2010 to exposing a victim to HIV in violation of a health directive.

For the sexual battery conviction, Gardner must serve his sentence day-for-day. He must also register as a sex offender.

    So the guy gets what he wanted. Taxpayer funded HIV treatment and housing for the rest of his life. Register as a sex offender ? I doubt he will make it that far.
