Beautification group honors Oxford mayor

By NEMS Daily Journal

OXFORD – Keep Mississippi Beautiful has named Oxford Mayor George “Pat” Patterson as its 2012 Mayor of the Year.
Amberlyn Liles, the city’s recycling coordinator, read the declaration to the Board of Aldermen.
It was awarded, she said, “in recognition of exceptional service and dedication to the Keep Mississippi Beautiful mission by engaging individuals to take a greater responsibility for improving their community environment through litter prevention, waste reduction and recycling, and beautification.”
Oxford’s environmental successes include an award winning curbside recycling program, landscape and sign ordinances that enhance the city’s aesthetics, tree-lined streets and a beflowered courthouse square.
