TUPELO – Lee County interim School Board member Ronnie Bell held onto his seat on Tuesday night in a special election.
Bell, a former county administrator, defeated former Saltillo Mayor W.K. Webb. He received 2,009 votes, or 54 percent.
“I appreciate all of the help and confidence,” Bell said. “We have a lot of big issues ahead, not only for the Lee County School District, but for a lot of districts in the state with coming curriculum changes.”
Bell, 50, will continue to represent District 2, which includes Saltillo and Guntown and will serve the final four years of the six-year term to which Jim Bain was elected in November 2010. Bain resigned from the position in March, and Bell has been serving as interim board member since March 8.
Bell said he is interested in innovative ways for the school district to offer pre-K education and also in being responsible with taxpayer money.
