Benham gets date to plead guilty

GREENVILLE – Memphian Randy Benham will join Tupeloan Jerry Burke in federal court Nov. 24 to plead guilty to unspecified charges.
Benham’s court date was made public Tuesday on the court’s Internet data site.
Federal agents raided Benham’s warehouse at 120 N. Front St., Tupelo, last May and seized thousands of cartons of tobacco products on which state and federal taxes were not paid.
The new document states Benham will plead to an information, which is a charge that doesn’t go through a grand jury as an indictment does.
No details were made public about the charges against him or Burke, whose hearing precedes Benham’s, but documents related to the tobacco raids claim the men were involved with an extensive black market cigarette operation.
