Bennett keynotes Education Symposium

TUPELO – The Common Core State Standards will be a topic of discussion at today’s Mississippi Education Symposium to be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the BancorpSouth Conference Center.

The keynote speaker is William Bennett, an education consultant who served as U.S. education secretary under President Ronald Reagan. Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves and new state Superintendent of Education Carey Wright will make opening remarks, and three other speakers are on the agenda.

Bennett also will hold a book signing at Reed’s Bookstore today from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. His keynote will begin around noon.

The symposium is designed to help teachers and administrators hear innovative methods for teaching children and using technology. Walk-up registration will be available. Cost is $120 for public school teachers and $200 for private school teachers.
