BIGGERSVILLE Stacy Hamblin and Daniel Rowsey hooked up in a pitchers’ duel Saturday in Game 1 of the first round Class 1A series between the Ingomar Falcons and the Biggersville Lions.

Game 3 Tuesday had Hamblin and Rowsey taking the mound again, but only one of those pitchers brought his best stuff this time. Rowsey had his adrenaline flowing in Game 3, scattering five hits over five innings and rapping out four hits at the plate as the Lions advanced with a 12-2 win over the Falcons.

“Biggersville had a good dose of adrenaline, while we must have left ours at home,” Ingomar coach Norris Ashley said. “And when Rowsey got the lead, he started smelling it.”

Rowsey got the smell in the first inning, leading off for the Lions with a single. Triples by Chad Allen and Nickey Shaw plated three runs after that to put Biggersville ahead for good.

The Lions scored four more in the bottom of the second inning, the big blow provided by Rowsey with a two-run home run.

“We’re just up-and-down on the hitting aspect. Fortunately we were up tonight,” Biggersville coach Jacky Rowsey said. “Because of the basketball season, it was half the season before Daniel got his arm in shape.

“He’s just coming into his own right now.”

On the other hand, after allowing seven runs in the first two innings, Hamblin hit the leadoff batter in the third. Ashley then brought in Justin Roberts to tame the Lions, but the damage was already done, and Hamblin was on his way to his first loss of the season.

Biggersville added a solo run in the third, then scored four more in the fifth inning to end the game on the 10-run rule. Robi Suitor’s double plated three in the fifth, then Scott Nash’s single scored Suitor for the needed final run.

“I felt pretty confident about tonight after our second game (win) Saturday,” Rowsey said. “I felt we’d seen all their pitching Saturday, and if they had to go somewhere else, we’d be OK.”

Ingomar got its two runs in the second and fifth innings. A double by Nickey Rooker scored Hamblin in the second, and a single by Adam Sanders plated the run in the fifth.

The Falcons did have the bases loaded in the fifth inning with two outs, but Rowsey recorded the last two of his nine total strikeouts to get out of the jam. Also, from the last out in the second, the last seven outs against Ingomar were strikeouts.
