Bill would allow sale of Grenada hospital

JACKSON — Legislation that would allow the University of Mississippi Medical Center to take over a hospital in Grenada has been signed into law.

Gov. Phil Bryant signed House Bill 1721 this week. It takes effect immediately.

Grenada County has been shopping around the county-owned Grenada Lake Medical Center since last summer.

The bill would allow the board of supervisors to sell the building and land to UMMC after two appraisals.

Grenada County officials recently announced they had reached a tentative agreement with UMMC to take over the hospital’s management.

GLMC is licensed for 128 acute care beds, 14 skilled nursing care beds and 14 geriatric psychiatry beds.
