Biz Buzz has a little sandwich shop news for you today regarding Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches and Firehouse Subs.
First, it seems Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches is looking at Tupelo. The Champagne, Ill.-based chain has more than 1,200 locations in 40 states, with Mississippi stores in Columbus, Corinth, Oxford and Hattiesburg.
Biz Buzz spoke to the Corinth owner – who also plans to open one in Florence, Ala., – and he said he’s very much interested in opening in Tupelo. However, he said the owner of the Columbus store has territory rights for Tupelo. So, we called the Columbus store, and lo and behold, spoke to the owner’s wife, who said that they do indeed have plans to open in Tupelo soon.
In fact, they’re negotiating a site now. She also said they hope to have at least two locations in Tupelo. We’ll be following along closely to see how develops.
So what’s the latest on Firehouse Subs? The Jacksonville, Fla.-based chain has more than 600 locations in 35 states and PuertoFirehouse subs logo Rico. In Mississippi, there are locations in Oxford, Starkville, Hattiesburg and Flowood.
Last year, it appeared the restaurant was on its way to opening a Tupelo location at the former Dixie Gas site on West Main Street. That didn’t happen on Jan. 1, as planned. However, we’ve heard work is cranking up again soon. A Firehouse spokeswoman just called and said, ”As far as we know, it’s still planned.”
However, she did say we’d get a call back on Monday with additional details.
