Taqueria La Familia has replaced the former Shaan India Palace in east Tupelo.
The Mexican restaurant has been open for about three weeks and serves “authentic Mexican” fare.
The menu is in Spanish, but you’ll find tacos, antojitos (street food), huaraches (a type of flat, pancake), burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas, mariscos (seafood), combination platters and other goodies.
Just a sampling of the tacos, the fillings include asada (grilled beef), chicken, adobada (marinated pork), chorizo, lengua (beef tongue), tripe and cabeza (meat from the roasted head of an animal, usually beef).
Yep, sounds authentic to me.
The location, is 2810 Highway 178 East, in the Skyline community. A buffet is available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., but it wasn’t available when we checked in earlier today.
You can call ahead if you’d like at (662) 269-2508.
