Biz Buzz: Target in Tupelo talk revs up again

Don’t get too excited folks, because we’ve been down this road before. BUT… GBT Realty of Brentwood, Tenn. has proposed a retail development called Tupelo Crossings, which would sit at the corner of North Gloster and Barnes Crossing Road, where the northern loop is coming through.

It’s not the first time, however, that GBT has proposed a retail center in Tupelo, and that prime spot has been looked at before by another development company, Abernathy & Timberlake of Duluth, Ga.

GBT’s current proposal calls for a 134,800-square foot anchor store, with adjacent retail shops filling 13,200 square feet, a 5,400-square foot restaurant and an available outparcel of .85 acres. “Anchor A” on one illustration has a big fat Target logo on it.

Four years ago, GBT proposed a larger Tupelo Crossing center, with 230,842 square feet and anchored by two stores. The proposed location was across Highway 45 on Tom Watson Drive, on the land where the Fairfield Inn & Suites now stands.
