OCEAN SPRINGS – From two-a-days in July to two-a-days in December, the 2010 MHSAA football season officially wraps up today at Ocean Springs High School’s Greyhound Stadium.
The 62nd Bernard Blackwell All-Star Classic featuring the top high school seniors from Mississippi will be the last official MHSAA game to be played this season.
Kickoff is set for 12:08 p.m. today, and the game will be televised on WCBI and WMC in the North Mississippi markets.
The South has won the last two games and holds a 28-25-4 advantage over the North.
Bubba Tacker of Smithville and Brian White of Alcorn Central have helped lead the North squad through its five practices leading up to today’s game.
The two Northeast Mississippi high school head coaches will be assisting Ridgeland’s Kenny Burton, who is handling the head-coaching duties for the North.
The North practiced Wednesday night, held two practices on Thursday and worked out Friday morning before having a walkthrough in the afternoon.
Itawamba AHS quarterback Maikhail Miller will be throwing passes for the North to receivers Deshaun McNeal of Oxford and Terrell Pinson of Tupelo.
Today’s game will give players such as Miller, an Ole Miss commitment, an opportunity to showcase their talents in front of a state-wide audience.
“I think he’s looking forward to it,” IAHS coach Ashley Kuhn said of his quarterback, Miller. “I think he feels like he got overlooked for the Mississippi-Alabama (All-Star) game, and he’s looking forward to showing people what he is capable of doing.”
