Blockbuster site revamped for new tenant in Tupelo

TUPELO – The former Blockbuster store on South Gloster Street is now a mattress store.
The building has been empty since May, when the video rental franchise suddenly locked its doors and closed the business.
America’s Mattress opened about a week and a half ago. Stacey McCormick owns the franchise, according to manager Adam Walker. McCormick also owns Bassett and Yourspace Roomstore in Tupelo.
“We’ve done a lot of work on it,” Walker said.
The interior of the store has been renovated and new carpet has been installed. Walker said the blue Blockbuster awnings will come off the exterior of the building this week. For now, there’s temporary signage for the mattress store.
The store sells mattresses, recliners, sofas, rugs, laps and other furniture. Hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The phone number is (662) 269-3351.
The store also is hiring part-time employees. Walker said he’s looking for applicants with sales experience. Candidates can apply at the store or over the phone.
