TISHOMINGO – The body of a boater missing since Friday night has been found in waters of the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway near Bay Springs Lake, the Tishomingo County coroner said.

The body of Cary Wayne Smith, 25, of Belmont, was spotted about 11 a.m. Thursday near McDougal Branch boat ramp and was retrieved by the Corps of Engineers, said Coroner Mack Wilemon.

Officials had been searching for the man since early Saturday, after he apparently fell from a boat in Bay Springs Lake.

Tishomingo County Sheriff Glenn Whitlock said previously that while there were other men on the boat at the same time, there was no foul play and it appeared to be an accident.

Smith’s body will be taken to Jackson today for autopsy.
