Bodies identified, police still search for clues

news_icon_greenNEW ALBANY – New Albany police are piecing together what happened to an elderly couple who were found dead in their home on Sunday.

Carroll D. Mason, 78, and his wife, Patricia J. Mason, 77, were found dead in their home at 701 East Shady Lane in New Albany on Sunday afternoon, after police received a call from a neighbor who said they hadn’t seen the couple in a few days.

“There is no indication of a home invasion or a robbery gone bad,” said New Albany Police Chief Chris Robertson.

Investigators are looking at all angles, he said, and are not ruling anything out.

The bodies were sent to Jackson for autopsies. No immediate cause of death could be determined, Robertson said.

Assisting the New Albany Police with the investigation are members of the Union County Sheriff’s Department and Sheriff Jimmy Edwards, Mississippi Bureau of Investigations and Coroner Pam Bowman.

Preliminary forensics and autopsy results could be in by late this week, Robertson said.
