FULTON – The Itawamba County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the Friday burning death of a 76-year-old woman.
Sheriff Chris Dickinson said the woman died from apparently being burned near the Dorsey community in the southwest part of the county.
Even though he said there does not appear to be anything suspicious involving the death, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and a crime scene unit were brought in to collect evidence and investigate the incident.
“We are treating it like a death investigation,” said Dickinson. “When every we have a death that’s not natural and there are no witnesses, we always treat it like a death investigation.”
He wouldn’t comment on whether the body was found inside a burned structure.
Dickinson didn’t give a timeline as to when the investigation will be complete.
The woman’s name is not being released at this time.
