COLUMBUS — The Lowndes County coroner has identified a body of a man found in the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway over the weekend.

Coroner Greg Merchant identified the man as 55-year-old Robert Paul Martindale of the Iuka area.

Merchant says the cause of death was freshwater drowning.

The body was discovered Saturday.

Merchant said there doesn’t appear to be any foul play involved with Martindale’s death, but the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating.

The man was first reported missing on January 11.
