Body identified, cause of death confirmed in Sunday fire

IUKA – Tishomingo County Coroner Mack Wilemon has confirmed that the body recovered after a Sunday morning fire is James Matthew Willard, 44.

The autopsy report shows Willard died of soot and smoke inhalation, Wilemon said.

Willard’s body was discovered about 5 a.m. Sunday after the flames were extinguished at his Highway 25 North home in the North Crossroads community.

A passing motorist saw the building fully engulfed in flames about 1 a.m. Sunday and called it in.
