HARDEN COUNTY, Tenn. – The body of an Iuka man who drowned Sunday morning while boating on Pickwick Lake was recovered Tuesday morning in Hardin County, Tenn.
Roger Deaton, 54, died after jumping into the water to retrieve his cap that had blown off, according to reports. He was out on a boat with several friends near the Tennessee-Mississippi state line near the mouth of Yellow Creek and was last seen about 11 a.m. Sunday.
The Hardin County Fire Department was joined by several other law enforcement agencies in the search for Deaton’s body. However, the body was not discovered until Tuesday morning after it apparently washed upon a Hardin County bank of the lake, according to WBBJ-TV in Jackson, Tenn. Officials said Deaton was not wearing a life jacket when he jumped into the water.
