Body of Memphis man found in Sardis Lake

SARDIS — The body of a Memphis, Tenn., man has been recovered from Sardis Lake in Panola County, Miss.

Sheriff Otis Griffin says an autopsy has been ordered for 47-year-old Gaddy Steven Thomas, whose body was found floating in the lake on Wednesday.

Griffin says it appears Thomas was in the lake Monday evening with an unidentified female friend. The pair started out in a boat, but the boat got away during a swimming lesson and the man swam after it and disappeared.

The friend was wearing a life jacket and floated overnight in the lake until she was rescued Tuesday.

Griffin says Thomas’ body was spotted about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday by his deputies in the Lafayette County section of the lake.
