TUPELO – A Lee County man’s bond has been set at $1 million following a stand-off with police.

Harold D. Scruggs, also known as Dee Mallette, 32, has been charged with domestic violence aggravated assault, kidnapping, simple assault on a police officer and three counts of aggravated assault on a police officer.

The charges stem from a five-hour-plus long stand off with police on Friday night. Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson said police were initially called to the scene for a domestic violence call. After the victim was transported to the hospital, Scruggs fled to two separate structures and took a 19-year-old woman hostage. He proceeded to threaten the hostage, himself and police for hours before tear gas was deployed and he left his residence.

No one was injured in the stand-off.

Scruggs’ bond was set on Monday.
