COLLINS, Miss. (AP) — Deputies in Covington County who were sent to seize animals believed to be mistreated found the skeletal remains of several horses.

WDAM reports that the deputies had gone to a residence in the Hot Coffee Community Thursday. They were working with Hub City Horse Haven of Hattiesburg and the Southern Pines Animal Shelter to round up the animals.

During the roundup bones from at least three to four horses were discovered in woods adjacent to the property.

Six horses and one donkey were rescued from the property. They will be rehabilitated and sent out to foster care until they can be adopted. A rescued dog was taken to the Southern Pines Animal Shelter where he will be placed up for adoption.
