Booneville alderman addresses concerns

BOONEVILLE – A Booneville alderman, absent from a previous city board meeting due to a death in his family, took issue Tuesday with a discussion in his absence to possibly reduce the mayor’s salary.
Alderman David Bolen said he was disappointed to learn through telephone calls from concerned residents that there had been discussion of such an important matter while he was out of town.
Aldermen Mark McCoy, Wilda Pounds, Harold Eaton and Jeff Williams reportedly have threatened to reduce Mayor Joe Eaton’s salary if communication between the two branches of government does not improve.
Bolen said examples of poor communication among public officials are visible at all levels of government, but that Booneville’s mayor, city board, department heads and employees are all very capable of having a positive relationship that is respectful to all.
Of key concern, he said, is the negative public image the city is projecting to outside industries, businesses and individuals that the community is working to recruit to build the local economy.
