BOONEVILLE – Prentiss County deputies Joey Clark and Rusty Barnes arrested a Booneville man Monday on a drug charge.
Charley L. Grimes, 27, 154 CR 1040, Booneville, was charged with possession of the controlled substance metamphetamine or “ice” as it is known on the street.
The drug was found after a traffic stop on Meadowcreek Road in Booneville, Sheriff Randy Tolar said.
“Ice” is a form of metamphetamine which resembles crushed ice. It is not as common in this area as the powered form, Tolar said.
Methamphetamine sells on the street for about $100 a gram.
“This is becoming increasingly more common to this area and has serious effects, especially after prolonged use,” Tolar said.
Officers with the North Mississippi Narcotics Task Force, Booneville Police and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics are assisting in investigation of the cases.
Grimes was released after posting a $10,000 bond.
