Broken part led to power outage

A power outage in Tupelo early Saturday morning can be blamed on a broken part.

A component that alerts workers to problems within a transformer was broken and caused the outage in the northwest substation, said Johnny Timmons with Tupelo Water & Light.

The outage took place at about 12:30 a.m. and took out power from McCullough Boulevard to Thomas Street.
