Brother of man shot by Verona police charged with possession of crack

TUPELO – A man who was involved in a fatal shooting by Verona police on Tuesday has been charged with possession of more than 23 grams of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Department.

Christopher Lashawn Montgomery, of Aberdeen, was detained following the death of another Aberdeen man, Henry Montgomery, who was shot by a Verona officer following an altercation on Mattox Road on Tuesday afternoon. Christopher and Henry Montgomery are brothers.

Christopher Montgomery, 33, and Henry Montgomery, 31, were reportedly approached by two Verona police officers on Mattox Road after a disturbance involving the two men was reported. An altercation ensued, and Henry Montgomery was shot once by one of the officers.

Bond for Christopher Montgomery has been set at $250,000.
