JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Gov. Phil Bryant has issued an order setting Nov. 6 as the date for election in DeSoto and Marshall counties to fill a vacancy in the state House.
The date coincides with the general election and election to fill the Senate District 19 vacancy.
Bryant, in a statement Tuesday, says holding the multiple elections on one date will avoid voters having to go to the polls multiple times and will save the cost of a special election.
The qualifying deadline for candidates in the House 52 election is Oct. 8. If no one receives a majority, there will be a runoff on Nov. 27.
Rep. Tommy L. Woods resigned the House seat July 30.
